A performance with the Patch Mutator, DSP Load, Parameter Pages and the on-screen keyboard open.

This is an early beta

Cube G2 Editor 0.1.4 is an early public beta. Please try everything you do with your G2: open and save patches, edit live, play performances, use variations, morphs and banks. Tell us what doesn't work, what looks wrong or what feels awkward. Every report helps, even a small one.

In the app, Settings ▸ Feedback shows what to include in a report and how to save a USB log.

New in 0.1.4: big patch libraries without waiting — clicks stay instant with thousands of patches in one folder, and the patch list appears in about 1.5 seconds instead of 7. Building Blocks arrived in 0.1.3.

What changed in each version: release notes (also in the app, under Settings ▸ Updates).

Features

Everything you patch on the G2, on a modern Mac

Patches look and behave the way G2 players know them, so there is nothing to relearn.

Live over USB

Edit the patch on your G2 as it plays: modules, cables, knobs, names and colors.

The layout you know

Module panels, cable colors and menus follow the original G2 editor.

Performances and four slots

Open .pch2 patches and .prf2 performances, with variations, morphs and the global knobs.

Patch Mutator

Breed new sounds from two parents, randomize with care and keep the good ones.

Spectrum and X-Y

See what your G2 plays, straight from the inputs of your audio interface.

Module library

Browse every module with a picture of its panel and drop it right into the patch.

Bank backup

Download all the patches and performances in your G2's memory to your Mac.

Play from the Mac

An on-screen keyboard plays the selected slot, even with your computer keys.

Close-up

A closer look

A few things that make patching faster than ever on the G2.

New in 0.1.3

Building Blocks

Keep your favourite patch fragments, a filter section, a sequencer, a clock, as blocks and drag them onto any patch.

  • Drag and drop. Pick a block in the Blocks list and drop it on the patch. It lands selected, ready to move, and one ⌘Z takes it back.
  • Everything comes along. Knob assignments, morphs, MIDI CCs and labels travel with the block.
  • Save your own. Select modules and choose Save Selection as Block, or drag the selection onto the Blocks list.
  • Any patch is a block. Choose a folder of .pch2 files in Settings and every patch in it becomes a block.
Patch Mutator with six children bred from Mother, the eight variations and the Mutation settings panel on the Generate tab
Patch Mutator Shape tab: Amount fader towards a target and a family of eight sounds in Temporary Storage
Patch Mutator

Breed new sounds by ear, with more control than the original

Press Mutate and get six children of your sound. Listen, pick the best and breed again. Everything the original Mutator does is here, plus a settings panel it never had:

  • Only audible. Leaves alone modules you can't hear, so no change is wasted on a dead knob.
  • Not silent. Children that come out silent are rolled again.
  • Pool & Diversity. Breeds 32 candidates and keeps the six most different.
  • Profiles. Timbre, Keep pitch, Motion, Space or Subtle, or your own weight for each group.
  • Protect. Keeps assigned knobs, pitch, loudness and tempo-synced timing in check.
  • Amount and families. Slide smoothly from Mother towards a target, or make a family of eight steps and copy it to variations 1–8.
  • A/B compare. Switch between Mother and any child with the space bar.
The patch zoomed in to 187 percent, with sharp knobs, displays and cables
Canvas

Zoom in, or see the whole patch

Every module is drawn as vectors, so knobs, displays and labels stay sharp at any size, on a laptop or a big studio display.

  • Buttons in the top bar. One fits every module on screen (⇧⌘0). The other returns to your standard size: right-click it to choose 100%, 120% or 140%. The arrows next to the percentage zoom step by step.
  • Trackpad and mouse. Pinch, or scroll with ⌘ held. The zoom follows your pointer.
  • Move around. Hold the space bar and drag. ⌘0 takes you back to your standard size.
Patch Adjuster with eight knobs: Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release, Mod. Rate, Timbre, Resonance and Effects
Patch Adjuster

Change the whole patch with one knob

Eight knobs move every matching parameter in the patch at once: all attacks, decays, sustains and releases, modulation rates, timbre, resonance and effects. Make a patch snappier, darker or wetter in one move.

Install

Up and running in a minute

  1. Download the .dmg, open it and drag Cube G2 Editor to Applications.
  2. Open the app. macOS says it can't check the app for malware. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.

You only need to do this once for every new version. The editor tells you when a new one is out.

Why? Cube G2 Editor is an independent app that isn't registered with Apple, so macOS can't verify it automatically. This is common for free, independent software.

Requirements

  • macOS 15 Sequoia or later
  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer)
  • Nord Modular G2 with OS 1.62, connected over USB

The G2X and G2 Engine have not been tested yet. Intel Macs are not supported.

Back up your banks first. This is beta software and it sends patches to your synth. Use Synth ▸ Download Banks from G2… before you start.
